WASHINGTON, August 16, 2007 – Amtrak and Wandrian today announced significant enhancements to the railroad’s online sales system for international travel agents and tour operators, Amtrak RailAgent. The enhancements include the ability to purchase a variety of USA Rail Passes – available exclusively to international visitors -- and a new module for tour operators, Amtrak Tour RailAgent. Together, these two new features greatly enhance the ability of international agents to access Amtrak inventory and book travel. Amtrak RailAgent was developed and is operated by Wandrian, Inc., a global rail technology and distribution provider.

Since launching Amtrak RailAgent in March 2007, 1,500 international travel agents have registered to purchase Amtrak train tickets. These 15- and 30-day passes offer flexible travel options for visitors from outside the USA and Canada.

To further meet the needs of international distributors, a new booking tool called Amtrak Tour RailAgent has been created for Inbound Tour Operators, International Tour Operators and Wholesalers. Developed by Wandrian, the new system enables tour operators to set up credit accounts and access additional reports when booking Amtrak rail passes and tickets online via direct connection to the railroad’s reservation system.

In addition to the booking capacity, both Amtrak RailAgent and Amtrak Tour RailAgent provide information on train schedules, routes, accommodations, training programs, and the amenities available on each train.

Web-based system will allow bookings by agents around the world

WASHINGTON – Amtrak is pleased to announce the launch of Amtrak RailAgent, a new online sales system designed especially for use by international travel agents and tour operators. This web-based system, developed by Wandrian, a leading global travel distributor for rail products and services, allows agents to book Amtrak rail passes and tickets online via a direct connect to the railroad’s own reservation system.

Through Amtrak RailAgent, users may book point-to-point tickets in real time and print ticket information for the first time. Using a customer’s credit card, agents are now able to issue confirmation numbers, rather than paper tickets for confirmed reservations. Previously, international agents had no real-time, direct connect to Amtrak’s reservation system, (I would leave that out since they will still be partners of Amtrak).

In addition to the booking capacity, Amtrak RailAgent also provides information on train schedules, routes, accommodations and amenities on board each train. Online demonstrations show users how to navigate the available functions. Agents must register to use the system, which is available worldwide through the internet.
